Anthony Heaney MD, PhD, FRCP

Dr. Anthony Heaney is an experienced Endocrinologist and Professor in Residence of Medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine, University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA). He received his medical degree (MB, ChB, BAO) and PhD from Queen's University of Belfast in Northern Ireland and, after completing an internship and residency in internal medicine and surgery at the Mater Infirmorum and Royal Victoria Hospitals in Belfast, he undertook a research fellowship in endocrinology at Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast, after which he was a Lecturer in diabetes, endocrinology, and metabolic medicine at University of Manchester, UK. He moved to the US as an endocrinology post-doctoral fellow and later joined the Faculty at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center prior to his current role at UCLA.
Dr. Heaney's research interests focus on the pathogenesis of pituitary tumors and identification of novel molecular targets for innovative treatments for pituitary and other neuroendocrine tumors. He is a widely published author, and has written many articles for such peer-reviewed publications as Nature Medicine, Proceedings of the National Academy of Science, Journal of Clinical Investigation, Cancer Research, and Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism. His book chapters include several for Bailliere's Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, Oxford Textbook of Endocrinology, and Endocrine Updates. He is a previous Associate Editor for the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism and serves as reviewer for several journals. Dr. Heaney is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (UK), former President of the International Pituitary Society, and an active member of several scholarly organizations, including The Endocrine Society, The Pituitary Society, and The North American Neuroendocrine Tumor Society. His honors include a Fulbright Scholarship (1997), Merck Senior Fellows Award (1998), UCLA Chancellors Award (2000), Best Doctors in America (2009-Present), and Los Angeles Super Doctors (2019-Present).
